The Beat is sub-divided into 3 smaller Beats, the Upper Beat to the west, the Foundry Beat in the middle and the Tidal Beat, at the Estuary.
The Upper Beat extends from Geise Burn up to the Cemetery Bridge.
The Foundry Beat lies between the Cemetery Bridge and the Swimming Pool Bridge.
The Tidal Beat lies between the Road Bridge and the Salmon Bothy, at the Thurso Harbour.
