Report: For the third time in a couple of weeks I have seen fish jumping in the Estuary. Normally, it would be toward the end of May when we would first have sight of fish. The quality (and size) of these fish seems to indicate that the lack of operation of the nets along the coastline must be proving to be very beneficial. Most of the Northern river are reporting much bigger fish being caught this Spring. These fish would have been the spearhead, the leaders of these shoals of salmon as the arrive on the coastline and would have been first to fall prey to these nets.
We really should start writing to the Scottish government, telling them of the wisdom of their decision to offer three years of protection to our salmon------------- maybe suggesting that five years would be even wiser !!
