Report: Despite sub-zero temperatures every seat was taken at the Opening Day Dinner in the Ulbster Arms. John Drummond welcomed everyone to the meal and asked us to observe one minutes silence in memory of Jeck Waters who died very recently. I had many people approach me later in the evening to commend John most highly for his thoughfulness in doing so.
After a particularly nice meal John invited Malcolm Dutchman Smith to address the assembled company. Malcolm`s speach was very witty and full of reminices of his thirty year association with the Thurso river and his various adventures with an assortment of Ghillies. This was the second time that Malcolm had spoken at the Opening Day Dinner and all agreed that it was as enjoyable as his first visit. Davie "Dar Sutherland then rounded the evening of with a very witty five minute riposte and presented Malcolm with a painting of his favourite pool on the river whilst Dar`s Wife Isobel presented a bouquet of flowers to Pauline, Malcolm`s Good Lady.
I would advise Malcolm`s brother John that, if he were to go to Law, he would have a good case for slanderagainst Malcolm. I have the evidence on tape-----it is available John----at a price.
