Now that the dust has settled on another Season we can look back on yet another wonderful year.
We have recorded the third best return since records began in 1896 and only the fifth time that the 2,000 barrier has been broken-------- the other years being 1927----1965----2010-----2011 and obviously 2012. Although we have had three quite wet Summers these returns would not read so prolificly had it not been for the policies of the New Owners. Firstly, they took the nets off at the mouth of the river which has to have made a massive difference. They then proceeded to make the river much more accessible to those of us who are getting along in years. Much needed Pool repairs have been carried out and monies are readily available for ongoing riverbank work, style and bridge repairs.
Having glanced at the chart for next year, I would counsel those intending to visit, to confirm their bookings very soon as I am now seeing the Thurso enjoying the popularity that it had when I started off almost fifty years ago. |
