At this time of year we walk all of the beats to identify any repairs needed. I was surprised just how much the river bank at the top of the Mill Stream on Beat two had disintegrated. A rather larege repair will need to be undertaken there. The test that we apply to stiles bridges etc is that we visualize a sixty five year old angler with rod in hand and Fishing bag on his back and consider how he might be able to cope. Mentally, I need to add forty years to my age to undertake this task!! This will need to be a Summer repair, and thankfully, as it is not an "in-river" repair, we will not need to go cap in hand to Mr B Sprout from Brussels and his Fellow Vegetables( who masquerade in various Acronymed Organisations in this Country).
The eggs in the Hatchery are looking good and losses have been absolutley minimal. |
