"The Original source of information on The Thurso"

Report: Our season got under way again on Thursday. We were piped across Halkirk Bridge and on to the Comlifoot pool by 16 year old Jack Cowan where Ghillie Jim MacDonald proposed the traditional toast to the river and her anglers before inviting local business man Jock Campbell to cast the first fly of the season. In his interview to the television cameras Jock spoke of how he has fished thoughout the world, yet the Thurso remained his favourite. After a cup of coffee and a dram in the Ulbster Arms, anglers went to seek their fortunes on their various beats.
Just after midday a very breathless Mike Hendstridge phoned from beat nine to tell me that he thought for quite a while that he had the first fish but after twenty five minutes it turned out to be an enormous kelt.
As I write the rain is pouring down yet again and the river is rising rapidly.
