Salmon Life Cycle - Parr
In summer, Parr markings and territorial behaviour are evident. This stage lasts 2-6 years.
These parr can often resemble small trout without a bit of cross examination. The main difference between the two is that parr have small fingerprint-like markings on their side. Although they resemble a small trout, ironically, the trout is perhaps the parr's biggest enemy. Often trout are caught and found with 2 or 3 small par inside them. Other predators include the Heron, Cormorants and Merganzer's.
