Salmon Life Cycle - Grilse
Retracing its path to spawn after 1 year (as a Grilse) or more (as a salmon) it enters the river to spawn.
This is where it gets fun for the anglers! The fish return to the river where they were born after a year or two, at varying times throughout the year. The first fish is usually not caught until late february, early march (spring fishing), through to May time when the main run begins, through June/July - known as the grilse run, and round to the back end where the whole process begins again!
